Getting Connected
What do I need to get a sensor online?
A 2.4GHz WiFi network with an internet connection, and USB-C power. That's it — no hub or gateway box to buy, power, or maintain. Sensors can't join a 5GHz-only network, so if your router broadcasts both bands, make sure 2.4GHz is switched on.
I don't have broadband at my kennels — can I still use Kennel Care?
Yes. A simple SIM-only mobile WiFi router (a small router with a data-only SIM card) works just as well as fixed broadband — plenty of kennels use this instead, especially at rural sites, outbuildings, or a new site where broadband hasn't been installed yet. As long as the router gives your sensors a 2.4GHz WiFi signal with internet access, that's all that's needed.
How do I connect a sensor to WiFi for the first time?
Each sensor creates its own temporary WiFi network the first time it's powered on. Connect to it briefly with a phone, tablet, or computer, choose your real WiFi network and enter the password, and the sensor takes it from there — no app to install. The full walkthrough with photos is in the
Sensor & WiFi Setup Guide.
What if I change my WiFi password or get a new router?
Each affected sensor will need the same quick one-time setup repeated with the new WiFi details — the same process as connecting it the first time.
Sensors & Hardware
Do I need a hub or gateway?
No. Every sensor connects straight to the cloud platform over your WiFi — there's no local hub sitting on-site that can fail, need rebooting, or need its own power and maintenance.
How do I power a sensor?
Standard USB-C, 5V — plug it into a normal socket for permanent installation. A power bank works too, but only for short-term or temporary setups, not as a permanent power source.
Can I add more sensors later?
Yes — order Extra Sensors any time from the
Pricing page. Each one connects straight to your existing account, no need to set anything else up.
What happens if a sensor stops reporting?
You're alerted within minutes if a sensor goes quiet — you're never left assuming everything's fine just because the dashboard looks empty.
Alerts & Thresholds
Can I adjust the temperature and humidity limits myself?
Yes. Set an account-wide default in Admin, then override the high and low temperature and humidity thresholds for any individual sensor — useful if, say, a whelping room needs to run warmer than the rest of the kennel.
How do alerts actually reach me?
Via Telegram — connect it once from the Admin page. You'll get an instant message the moment a reading goes out of range or a sensor stops reporting, plus a follow-up once things are back to normal.
Data & History
How long is my sensor data kept?
60 days of rolling history for every sensor, viewable as charts on the History page.
Can I export my data?
Yes — a one-click CSV export from the History page, ready to hand to a vet, inspector, or award assessor. Since data is only kept for 60 days, export anything you want to keep permanently before then.
Billing & Cancellation
How does billing work?
The Starter Pack is a one-off £657 (3 sensors, brackets, cables, and your first month of platform access), then £45/month starting 28 days later to keep your account running. See the
Pricing page for full details.
Can I pay by card instead of Direct Debit?
Yes — you choose either card or Direct Debit at checkout, whichever suits you. Both work identically for the ongoing £45/month.
How do I cancel?
Cancel any time from your account — there's no minimum term and no cancellation fee. See the
Terms of Service for the full details, or just get in touch and we'll talk you through it.
